Many people have asked me why I would take such a risk early in my career to work for a young Ypsilanti-based local investment firm. Working for Revalue is like trying to explain to a stranger what love is, or why you’re in love with your spouse. I could go on for hours explaining why our firm is amazing but until you’ve experienced a trust review or sat in on a quarterly meeting and listened to Angela explain how Revalue is an object in the universe that found us, you’ll never truly understand. I can simply say, my journey led me here, I am honored to work alongside professionals hungry for change. I am ecstatic to learn with individuals who can truly say are the catalyst for social-economic equity, redefining a system as ancient as time, so that it positively impacts the community in which I was raised and seeks to provide equitable opportunities for those who’ve been systematically oppressed for centuries.
We moved into our new office space in the beginning of the year, but walls could never hold weight to the price of loving what you do. I will say I wasn’t the biggest cheerleader for this change, but I wasn’t opposed either. I knew going from working entirely remote, to being in a physical space would have its ups and downs. For instance, I can no longer roll out of bed in my bonnet and pjs and throw on a robe to get on a call. It’s also a lot harder to take a nap on my break, but the benefits of being able to walk down the hall to talk to a team member to resolve an issue in five minutes opposed to a day of back and forth email exchange are exponentially efficient! The other upside is having a place to store my project tools other than in my daughters’ toy corner!
Yes, there are growing pains, and yes, I’d rather not put in sweat equity outside of my regular community outreach, but I’d rather clean bathrooms, than work for a corporate firm that expects me to work within the confinements of a traditional 40-hour work week. I’d also rather work under the leadership of a team that encourages my input and appreciates the unique spice I bring to the recipe. There is no greater reward than to have your CEO sit down with you to discuss a change you see fit and actually implement suggestions in real time, without the lag of corporate structure and politics to get approval from everyone in the c-suite.
We are currently recruiting for a few positions and as the HR Manager many would say, it is my job to articulate why you should join Revalue. However, one of the most beautiful cultural differences about Revalue is that it isn’t for everybody! We want to make sure you’re the right fit for us and more importantly we’re the right fit for you. With that in mind, I’m available to discuss and answer questions, heck I welcome it! I’m not here to sale Revalue to you, but I can say with confidence that if you are the right fit, working with Revalue will be like no other position you’ve ever held. “Revalue is a pioneering investment advisory firm that empowers you to use your money as a vote for more sustainable, more conscious, and more equitable world,” Revalue, 2019. I bet you’ll never find a love like mine!
